Generator Sets

Description
Generator sets, also known as generating sets, mainly consists of stator, rotor, end cover and bearings, etc. It is widely applied in industrial and agricultural production, national defense, science and technology and daily life. Generator sets is kind of mechanical equipment to change other forms of energy into electric energy. It can be driven by hydraulic turbine, steam turbine, diesel or other motive power machines. These motive power machines change water, air, and fuel burning or nuclear fission energy into mechanical energy and then transmit such energy to generator sets. And the generating sets then transforms such mechanical energy into electric energy.

Classifications
According to its current, generator sets can be classified into direct-current generator and alternating-current generator.
In accordance with working principles, generating sets can be divided into synchronous generator, asynchronous generator, single-phase generator and three phase generator.
As per producing methods, generator sets can be subdivided into turbo-dynamo, hydro-generator and gasoline engine generator, etc.
In the light of energy sources, generating sets can be sub-classified into fire power generator and hydroelectric generator.

Operation Attentions
Proper use and maintenance can prolong the working life of generator sets.
Preparing Work Before Starting Up
1. Operators in the machine room should observe the safety operation procedures. They should wear overalls and insulated shoes. Besides, the crew should have a clear division of responsibilities.
2. Check all gearboxes, clutch, speed controller oil level and fasteners. The oil water temperature should be no lower than 20 degree.
3. Set all system pipeline gates on “Work” button.
4. Check and fasten the link bolts of transmission gear.
5. Check whether clutch handle pressure is normal, and check if the speeding insurance device is properly located.
6. Examine whether the air bottle pressure is regular.
7. Open the drain valve of air pump.
8. Check the circulating water pump, oil pump and fuel pump.
9. Power up maximum excitation resistance and switch off the power switch.
Start-up and Operation
1. As for generator sets closing down for more than 24 hours, users should open the test valve and start the oil pump. If closing down for more than seven days, operators should detect exciter and insulation resistance of the circuit operation.
2. Start fuel pump and let out the air in the pipeline and observe whether the voltage is within the rated scope. If the voltage is in a proper state, users can start the generating sets.
3. Observe whether the start power source voltage is up to the mustard. If the voltage functions well, press the “Start” button.
4. When operating the generator sets, pay attention to the indicated value on the oil manometer. If it rises above the rated value, stop running the oil pump, close the blow-down valve of scavenging pump and thread the front clutch bolts.
5. After starting the generator sets, all the generators and electric equipment are electrified, one may not contact with live parts.
6. After starting up the generating sets, users can gradually improve the speed of the diesel engine and carry out examinations before powering on.
7. Operators can adjust the speed of diesel engine step by step. Great attention should be paid to whether the generator sets runs well when adjusting. Normal performances are as follow. The collecting ring and commutator brush do not beat; have no sparks and abnormal noise.
8. Regulate the generator output voltage and frequency. The voltage value stable and can reach 380 V ± 10 V. And the frequency should be up to 50Hz ± 0.5Hz.
